Students can actually touch the board with their finger and maneuver the tools in a more interactive modality. The ideal situation is to use virtual science labs such as FroGuts with a smartboard. Virtual simulations illuminate all of those obstacles.Enhance the Science CurriculumUsing simulated frogs is a terrific way to engage gifted and unmotivated students who may otherwise be bored. Furthermore, some students on IEPs may not be allowed to handle sharp objects. In addition, some schools do not have adequate labs to perform dissections. Using simulated frogs removes that obstacle.Lab SafetyActual physical dissections in a lab require the use of sharp instruments and harsh chemicals that can lead to injuries especially in students are not following directions. In addition, some people object to dissecting actual animals due to animal rights. Some parents or students object to the dissection of animals. Simulated frogs can be used in conjunction with traditional dissection or it can be used in place of it. Something is better than nothing!Flexibility in the Science LabStudents can perform the same dissection multiple times in order to get a better understanding of the subject matter. At least allowing students the change to manipulate the simulated frogs allows students to experience a virtual simulation. In fact, DoDEA does not approve of school funds spent on live dissections for students under ninth grade. ProsCost of Dissection Software vs Physical DissectionsSimulated frogs are cost effective as opposed to purchasing actual frogs for students to dissect. Hopefully, this discussion will encourage you to become more sophisticated in your understanding of this issue. What do we mean by "real" or "hands-on" and why are they important to learning. In particular, we say we prefer "hands-on" or "real" experience, but we are too often quite inarticulate about exactly what it is about these kinds of experiences that makes them compelling. Please focus the discussion on the following question: What important aspect of a good science education is gained or lost in doing simulated, rather than an actual, frog dissections? The purpose of this discussion is to get you to consider more carefully the nature of learning experiences. (15 minutes) After you have explored the virtual learning expeiences, you may enter the discussion. Also, it is a bit more graphic (dissections by their nature are graphic) and you may not want to explore this site while eating lunch. It requires a fast Internet connection because it has audio and video clips. This is another virtual dissection website. (5-10 minutes) "Net Frog" from the University of Virginia. Spend time exploring the "Virtual Frog Dissection Kit" as well as some of the other resources and information. The "Froggy" Project from the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab for an example of an actual virtual dissection. Select the frog dissection demonstration and complete it in its entirety (5-10 minutes). Before starting, you need to try a few simulated frog dissections. In this discussion, you are to consider the pros and cons of simulated frog dissections. With the advent of computer simulations, teachers now have a choice of doing actual and/or simulated dissections. This activity has endured for many decades and dissections of this sort are considered to be absolutely central to learning what science is all about. Actual Frogs One of the standard activities of high school biology is the frog dissection.

I'm just working on creating 'at the fall' of the world type scenario. The idea of that system is that it's 100 years after a parasite was released into the world, the parasite creates mutations in the infected and also creates shamblers that are 'zombie' type creatures. Modern AGE on pulpy mode has promise too, but I haven't actually played it yet. My first idea was Chronicles of Darkness (either vanilla or Hunter), especially with how it has merits for supernatural feats like pyrokinesis, but it's fairly crunchy and I'm not entirely sure the way it handles shock and fear works for Resident Evil-esque horror where you have to deal with a lot of bad stuff before you can take a longer break. What made Parasite Eve different from the Resident Evil type of survival horror (using mutants rather than zombies) is a pinch of RPG mechanics from older final fantasies like action points and stats and even some supernatural abilities the protagonist could wield (using what was effectively mana points). So I'm curious - what kind of a system do you think would work well for that kind of a game? However, my thoughts drifted to Parasite Eve, a niche console title with a cult following (sadly diminished after a very bad third game). Hi everyone, I was recently playing the Resident Evil remakes and was wondering about RPGs that would simulate that experience (I could think of several like Nemesis ORE, All Flesh, Delta Green etc).
The "thing" on the side of the RV where you connect the detachable cord is the same thing as the inlet you put on the side of your house for the generator. Oh, by the way some RVs have a detachable power cord as opposed to a cord that curls up in a cubbyhole. Your generator has both 30 amp and 50 amp (female) receptacles because a 30 amp tool (or RV) may not be plugged into a 50 amp power source without a box (a portable subpanel) in between and sold separately. If you are are powering your RV from the generator, usually you plug the RV cord directly into the generator and not into an outlet box on the wall. Built in 30A outlet for easy parallel & RV applications. Even common receptacles for powering lights and small appliances have amperage ratings, never more than 20 amp breaker rating, and sometimes (the T neutral hole variety) a minimum of 20 amps also. Honda portable generators provide reliable power for home back up, recreation, and industrial. You can get either or both to mount on the outside wall of the house, typically in outlet boxes something like 3x5 inches in size.Įach has a maximum amperes rating and specific circuit wiring amperage requirements. The Southwire 01919 includes a cord with attached ends, 50A California-Style CS63 C54Twist-Lock Plug and Connector, and is for use in disaster recovery. It is sometimes called a male receptacle. When nothing is plugged onto it it is dead it must be dead it must never be capable of becoming live. The inlet for the generator has exposed prongs and no slots. It may not be used to feed generator power into the house. (Also a 20 amp breaker to protect "ordinary" receptacles, if any.)Īn outlet for the recreational vehicle is powered by the house panel and the receptacle slots to insert a plug with prongs coming from the RV, power tool, etc. Portable Generators with 50 Amp Plug Reviews 1. Nothing special about the circuitry in the generator except that something (a breaker) should be in the 50 amp generator to trip if you try to draw more than 30 amps from its 30 amp receptacle. Tuxedo Mask saves her and Chibi Moon summons Pegasus. JunJun summons PakuPaku Dude, who tries to eat Chibi Moon. The Sailor Senshi appear and tell her off for interfering with Chibiusa's first love, to Chibi Moon's confusion as she doesn't know what they're talking about. His Dream Mirror is of course not the Golden Mirror. Suddenly, JunJun appears and hits him with her billiard ball. Suddenly, they spot a man and because he's "white as snow and has a long face" they assume he's Chibiusa's love interest. The Inner Sailor Senshi note that she's upset and don't blame her as they know they went too far this time. Embarrassed, Ami orders her apple juice to go.Īfterwards, Chibiusa is by a lake, fuming. Before Mamoru can get the truth out of her, Chibiusa notices the girls listening in, to her fury. Chibiusa tells Mamoru she has met someone. So while Ami orders an apple juice, Minako, Makoto, Rei, and Usagi sneak over to listen in. However, they are annoyed that they can't hear what they're saying. The Inner Senshi are watching convinced that Mamoru can get the truth out of Chibiusa. This prompts a confused Ami and Minako to have a debate that leaves Chibiusa annoyed at their cluelessness.Ĭhibiusa is with Mamoru at a five star restaurant. Chibiusa tells them he's white as snow and has a long face (obviously referring to Pegasus). Ami asks Chibiusa to tell her what he looks like. Chibiusa states she's unsure how to describe him. Minako asks Chibiusa if she meet someone new and what kind of person he's like. Minako and Ami both tell Chibiusa they are there for her. Makoto states her sempai theory again leaving Chibiusa confused as she and Rei have another argument.Ĭhibiusa is with Ami and Minako and eating ice cream again. Makoto offers some advice and Rei agrees. Chibiusa answers no before stating she feels like there's nothing she can do. Rei asks her if she's got anything on her mind. Now thoroughly confused, Chibiusa asks the pair what they are trying to ask. Annoyed that her lead in was blown, Rei asks her why she assumes it's a sempai and Makoto replies it's usually the case. Before she can eleborate, Makoto asks Chibiusa about her Sempai, to her confusion. Rei asks her if there's anything on her mind. Makoto and Rei tell her they want to check up on her to which Chibiusa reminds them they saw her yesterday. When they give her hers, Chibiusa asks them why they wanted to see her. Chibiusa is sitting on a bench while Makoto and Rei are getting ice cream. After waking them up and scolding them, Zirconia gives them their next target.Įlsewhere, Chibiusa is with Makoto and Rei. Later, Zirconia finds the Amazoness Quartet sleeping in. She calls Zirconia and tells her she needs the Golden Mirror found right away as she's tired of waiting for her and the Amazoness Quartet to find it. Usagi and Mamoru agree as they really want to know who she fell in love with.īack at the Dead Moon Circus, Queen Nehelenia is lamenting that while she has Helios she can't get the Golden Crystal until she finds the Golden Mirror. Minako agrees and states that that's why they need to find out who he is. Rei tells her they don't know it's a Sempai. Makoto wonders what kind of Sempai he is. Minako tells them that how first love goes. Ami is skeptical as she can't see why Chibiusa would keep that a secret from them. When Usagi asks what Makoto means, Rei tells her that Chibiusa has a boyfriend, to Usagi and Mamoru's shock. When Usagi asks what it is, Makoto tells her it's a Sempai. The other Inner Senshi tell her it can only mean one thing. Chibiusa told her she was talking to Momo but Usagi assumes (correctly) that she was lying. Usagi reveals that she overheard the conversation Chibiusa had with Pegasus the previous night. The next day, Usagi and Mamoru are meeting with the other Inner Senshi. Chibiusa tells him that she believes in him. After the flight, Pegasus assures Chibiusa that he'll tell her everything. During the flight, Chibiusa asks Pegasus if he believes in destiny as she's fallen in love with him. Chibiusa assumes her Moon Princess form and goes flying with Pegasus. Chibiusa promises that she'll help him like he has been doing for her since they met. Chibiusa asks him what the Golden Crystal is but Pegasus tells her he can't tell her. As Chibiusa becomes even more romantically infatuated with Pegasus (especially since she discovered his true identity as the handsome Helios), Usagi and her friends realize that she is in love, and are determined to discover the identity of her secret crush and sweetheart.Ĭhibiusa and Pegasus are in her room discussing the Golden Crystal and how it can save Elision. That’s 10bn of the 40bn tonnes of CO 2 we emit every year. Before the industrial era, it was a small source of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, but now it takes in around 25% of all our carbon emissions. And it ignores what the sea is already doing for us. We don’t yet have the science (known as “measurement, reporting, and verification”, or MRV) to be sure that any of these interventions in the ocean would work. Tracking the long term net effect of these ocean carbon uptake schemes is incredibly difficult, because it’s hard to predict how much carbon they will move from the atmosphere to the ocean and whether it will stay there. Of course, restoring ocean ecosystems is beneficial for lots of reasons, and it will have climate benefits, but we need to focus on the restoration, not manipulating the ocean environment to do stuff for us before we fully understand how it works now. It is also the language of control dressed up as concern for everyone else’s welfare. That betrays an ignorance of just how intricately woven together the ocean’s systems are, and how interlinked the whole thing is. I have frequently heard engineers and businesspeople state that they have two aims – to restore a pristine ocean and to make the ocean do the clearing up for us by taking up carbon, producing vast quantities of seaweed as a material resource, or whatever this week’s scheme is. You can’t “just” fertilise the ocean, or change its alkalinity, or park huge new farms there, or dump billions of tonnes of biomass into the deep sea without affecting the existing ocean physics, chemistry and biology. When it comes to removing carbon from the atmosphere, the ocean is already doing us a gigantic favour Some of the proposed technologies involve using the sea as a carbon sink, and advocates for scaling them up often give the impression that all this blue is just a giant pond to be exploited, ignoring the fact that the 3D ocean engine is intricately structured and that its living components are already under considerable stress. Carbon dioxide removal schemes do not allow us to keep burning fossil fuels – the focus must be on rapid decarbonisation – but they will be necessary in a few decades’ time to reach our current climate goals and maybe even reverse some of the damage. The two most obvious examples of this are schemes to use the ocean to take up more carbon from the atmosphere, and to mine critical minerals from the deep sea. We’ve filled up the land with our buildings, infrastructure and agriculture, and just look at that vast expanse of water, waiting for humans to give it a purpose! But alongside all that, there’s a detectable assumption that the sea is available space to expand into. We’re hearing about the importance of the sea for the Earth’s carbon cycle, and possible changes in ocean circulation due to polar ice melt. The ocean was formally mentioned in the Paris climate agreement of 2015, but it was only in 2019 that an “ocean and climate change dialogue” became part of the UN’s climate COP processes. Unless humanity starts to see the ocean for what it really is – a critical part of our planetary life support system – we risk sleepwalking into destruction. More than 50 years after Apollo, the ocean is starting to get more attention, but a growing slice of the discussion is based on the assumption that it is there for us to use, a resource to be exploited, a great volume of “nothing” that human inventiveness is going to turn into “something”. The great ocean engine has just kept turning while we scurry about near its surface, only caring when its churning causes something dramatic that we can see – an algal bloom or a giant swarm of jellyfish. We talk about fish and whales, plastic and pollution – the things that are in the water – but not the water itself. Since then, we’ve talked proudly about our “blue planet” but without thinking any further about what that blue actually is. Those two unforgettable images – Earthrise and Blue Marble – showed us our fragile and precious planet, defined by its blue. The prize was travelling far enough out into space to look back properly at planet Earth. T he real payoff from the Apollo missions had nothing to do with the moon. Waylon was extremely apologetic, and confessed that in the crazines move he was not aware of my situation. But i will never deal with them again without playing the guitar before i buy it. I will re-evaluate that decision after seeing this new american line. He apologized up and down and told me that he would be discontinuing the over seas line and would be rebuilding Halo as a US only company.įor now i am done with them. after all that was resolved i sent an E-mail to Waylon (the VP and founder). After berating their president and being a total douche bag i worked out a refund agreement, (i kept my american Kahler and seymour duncan pickups and they refunded the difference). over six months later i got it, and it was nicked up and the neck was warped beyond playability. I was promised it would be only 90 days until the new one would be finished. i waited 7 months only to find out that it was built to the entirely wrong specs and was being built in a chinese shop (which i was never told beforehand). I ordered a custom S-nine august of 2007. I unfortunately have a horror story to share. You'll get a few regular haters here that jump to hate given any chance. There are lots of things they'll do to customize a guitar for awesome prices.Īnyways, my experience with them was excellent, and to sum it up, I'm buying from them again. If you have questions, call them? Ask for yourself what they can do for your ideas on an 8 string. Jeff and Waylon have always been willing to take time on the phone to go over ideas with me as well for the guitar and for that and the product I will be buying my second 8 string from them. Haven't tried yet but was thinking to do a possible Eb or D. The lows are handled well because of the mahogany and its a BIG sounding guitar. I have a few Schecter 7 strings and could use them as comparison for being more difficult to play. It plays well and does what I want it to do while playing without having to struggle or feel uncomfortable. I purchased a Halo Octavia 28' with EMGs in the neck and bridge positions, ebony fretboard, and a quilt maple finish. You have no idea how difficult it is until you actually call around and speak with the companies that offer lefties. Being a lefty, its good to know that at least someone out there will build a guitar for you. One of the company owners played my octavia before they shipped it to me and didn't notice the bad fretwork or crooked bridge I will say that they did try to make things right when screwups happened, as I had the option of a full refund when I got the initial guitar as well.Īt the end of the day my main concerns were completely missed delivery dates and poor instrument quality that they failed to catch. That was my experience, you mileage may very. after four months I still had no new guitar, and the neck on the one I did have had warped so badly that the four higher strings were sitting on the fretboardĪt that point I shipped back the guitar I had and got my money back. we agree that I would hold on to the guitar while they built a new one, which would arrive at my door in 45-90 days oh and no allen wrenches to adjust anything the Octavia had the wrong neck construction, wrong fretboard wood, a crooked bridge, and uneven frets. Ordered Octavia with some custom specs and was promised 90 day delivery but as of last year / earlier this year when I dealt with them it hadn't happened yet. If they can get their build quality, quality control, and shipping together they could put out some decent guitars. i haven´t heard anything lately though, so for all i know, they may have fixed some of these issues? i know waylon is a nice guy, and he´s been equally frustrated with the inconsistencies and errors being made, so i know they´re trying to pull it all together. This is all how i percieve the whole thing, of course. I think they have potential though, as their marketing departement is hyperactive at work, so if they could work up a good customer base, then i think they could throw some more money into quality control etc. i was actually planning to get a custom 30" 8 string made by halo at one point, but then i read up about their custom shop quality and backed off. Their specs and looks are subjective, of course. I wouldn´t trust halo at this point, simply because they´re not in sync with themselves quite yet, and their low prices probably means low quality control. also, i´ve heard complaints about halo guitars being uncomfy in general, but i´m not sure what to believe. They have issues like loooong waiting times, only to get the wrong specs, having to send it back and wait a looooong time for a new one, and having that be wrong as well, etc. forgetting to make string ferrules is a pretty big deal, ya know? not because they don´t know what they´re doing, but because they´re too young and unorganized a company to work at the scale they´re working at. I´ve heard lots of bad things about them. A subreddit for writing fake news headlines in the style of the The Onion Press J to jump to the feed. Get the latest funniest memes and keep up. Tierney and Painter note that increased Viking raids following the death of Charlemagne in CE 814 may have contributed to the military aspects of the system in order to emphasize “locally improvised protection.” The granting of land (a fief or benefice) entailed service to the lord. At the top was the king while the knight or chevalier was found at the bottom. Some historians note that the feudal system was like a pyramid. By the 9th and into the 10th Century, those relationships governed detailed obligations, often over-lapping between various lords, and defined by property, law, and inheritance. Historian Steven Ozment states that, “As large numbers populated the countryside, there evolved that peculiar fusion of Germanic, Roman, and Christian practices that we speak of today as “feudal society.’” Feudalism represented the relationship between lord and vassal. But historical research demonstrated that the presuppositions governing the use of the term dark ages were false: Western Europe in the Early Middle Ages did experience a degree of learning trade had not ceased and law prevailed – albeit a legal system influenced by the Church, the barbarians, and scraps of Roman law. In rudimentary form, feudalism was a part of those dark ages. Hence, feudalism cannot be properly understood simply as a generalization or through the prism of independent historiography focusing solely on one aspect of the system.Ī partially relevant example might be the discarded use of the term “Dark Ages” to label the period of the Early Middle Ages. Attempting to Define the Feudal “System”įeudalism in France was different from feudalism in England, and this, according to medieval historians, may account for the eventual emergence of societies tied to different concepts of law, social relationships, and royal power. The notion of a feudal lord and his vassals, for example, is part of that overall system, although the specifics beyond generalizing must account for geographic differences as well as other factors. The so-called “feudal society,” however, can refer to various elements of that transformation period, including social relationships, the economic and legal systems, and the impact of Christian influences. In the following excerpts from that book, Leo Africanus describes several of the major kingdoms and cities of West African civilization.Feudalism, as a generalization, describes those forces in Western Europe during a period of transformation following the dissolution of the Roman Empire. Later published in many languages, it became a major source of European knowledge of the African Islamic world, much as Marco Polo's writings introduced Europeans to China. It was during his stay in Italy that he completed in 1526 1526 1526 the book for which he is most clearly remembered, The History and Description of Africa, based on observations and knowledge picked up during his travels. There he was apparently converted to Christianity, at least for a time, though he later chose to live in Muslim North Africa and likely returned to his original Muslim faith. On one of these journeys, he was captured by pirates, winding up in Rome, where he came to the attention of Pope Leo X. Later, he served the sultan of Morocco as a diplomat and commercial agent, traveling widely in North Africa, the Middle East, Italy, and West Africa. His family moved to Fez in Morocco, where he was educated in Islamic law. Known to the world by his European-derived nickname of Leo Africanus, this widely traveled Arabic-speaking Muslim of Berber background was actually born as al-Hassan Ibn Muhammad al Wazzan in Granada, Spain, during the late fifteenth century, just as Islam was being pushed out of that country.
